Migrating contacts within your email sequences is a powerful feature that allows you to seamlessly move your contacts to different steps within a sequence. This can be done either automatically when changes are made to the sequence or manually as needed.
Effective email marketing hinges on timely and relevant communication. By migrating contacts to the appropriate steps in your sequence, you ensure that they receive the right messages at the right time, enhancing engagement and improving conversion rates.
Whether you're updating your sequence to better reflect your marketing strategy or responding to individual contact needs, migrating contacts help maintain the flow and relevance of your communications.
Migrate Contacts After a Change Is Made
When you make changes to your sequence, Nimble will launch the contact migration editor, enabling you to select where your existing contacts should be positioned within the sequence.
Migration Columns:
You'll see the following columns:
Contacts in this step - Displays a group of your existing contacts in the sequence. By cliking on the number you will see the contacts who are in the group.
Next action - Shows the steps where contacts in the sequence can be migrated. It defaults to the next step within a sequence. However, in the dropdown menu you can select any other necessary step for your contacts.
When to take - When migrating contacts, you can choose when they have to move to the new step. 'After current delay' keeps the existing wait time (the contacts will wait the originally set delay before moving on), 'Immediately' moves contacts without delay, and 'New sequence delay' applies the full new delay set in the updated sequence.
The change will apply to all contacts listed in the group.
Once completed, your contacts will appear in the selected step, and you can immediately see this change reflected in the Active tab.
Comparison of Migration Options
When to take | What happens to contacts? | When do they move forward? | Which version of the sequence do they follow? | Next action |
After current delay | Contacts stay on their current step with the original delay | After completing the original delay | Updated (new) version | Proceed to next updated step |
Immediately | Contacts skip the delay and move to the next step | Immediately | Updated (new) version | Skip delay and send now |
New sequence delay | Contacts move to the new step and serve the new delay | After serving the new delay (starts now) | Updated (new) version | Wait, then proceed |
What about “Skip migration”?
If you select Skip migration, contacts will remain in the original version of the sequence and won’t be moved to the updated version.
You can migrate them manually later.
Use this when you want to preserve the old flow for some contacts.
Manually Migrate Contacts
To manually migrate contacts, visit the sequence and choose the "Active" tab. From here, select the contacts and under "Move In Sequence" choose "Move to a different step".
This will open the contact migration editor, where you can choose the next step for contacts already in the sequence. You can apply changes individually or to all contacts listed.
Once completed, your contacts will appear in the selected step, and you can immediately see this change reflected in the Active tab.
