Merge Tags for Individual and Group Messages

Nimble has just enriched Merge Tags for Individual and Group Messaging. We now offer Merge Tags not only for common fields but for all of your generic and custom fields for contact records and Workflows. This includes address fields, phone number fields, websites, lead details, and any custom field you have created to meet your business needs.

Custom Fields on Deals is not yet included in Merge tags but this is just around the corner.

Nimble enables you to send targeted email messages to 1,000 contacts per month. This is a great way to send targeted sales outreach or marketing messages to lists of your contacts. Messages sent through our group messaging feature appear as if it was sent directly from your Inbox to the recipient. Other recipients will have no idea it was sent to anyone else.

What Are Merge Tags?

Merge tags (a.k.a. placeholders/variables) are text identifiers that match the unique data saved in fields on a contact record. They make it easy to personalize messages that are sent to larger lists. This way, your message will look like you have done your homework and you're worth their time.

Use merge tags to display contact information in your emails. For example, if you use a merge tag of 'First Name' and send it to a list of 1,000 contacts, Nimble will autofill each recipient's name after it has been sent.

You can apply as many merge tags to your email as needed.

How to Use Merge Tags

To use merge tags, all contact fields should be populated. To populate contact fields, visit the contact record and click the Data Field sub-tab. You can use inline editing to populate these fields including any custom fields you may have created for contacts or workflows.

To accommodate multiple values within contact records in relation to merge tags, you can choose a primary type for contact record fields. By selecting a primary type on a contact record, you can indicate to Nimble which piece of information should be used within merge tags when creating emails.

Once this is done, visit the Group Message tab and click "New Group Message".

Choose "Add merge tag" then select the merge tag you would like to insert into the body of the email.

Merge tags can also be used to populate the subject line. Just copy and paste the text into the subject line.

Select an Alternative word

If the field is not populated, then you can enter a word that should be used when that field is blank. For example, let's say you want to send a group message where the body of the email includes an address. If the field for the address is blank on the contact record, you can choose what words should be used instead such as "meeting location" in place of an address.

Anything you create can be saved as a saved Template and you'll be able to use that template when it's time to send another message.

CONTACT FIRST NAME

Inserts your contact's first name if it's available on their contact record.

CONTACT LAST NAME

Inserts your contact's last name if it's available on their contact record.

CONTACT COMPANY NAME

Inserts the company's name

CONTACT TITLE

Inserts the job title of your contact if it's available on their contact record

CONTACT PHONE NUMBER

Inserts the phone number as it appears on the contact record.

Phone options include Work, Home, Mobile, Home fax, Work fax, Phone Other, Phone Main

CONTACT EMAIL ADDRESS

Inserts the email as it appears on the contact record.

Email options include Work, Personal, and Other

CONTACT SOCIAL URL

Inserts the social profiles for the contact as it appears on their record.

This includes Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Plus, Foursquare, Angel List, Instagram, Tiktok and Youtube

CONTACT ADDRESS

Inserts the address as it appears on the contact record.

This includes Work, Home, and Other

CONTACT URL

Inserts URLs as it appears on the contact record.

This includes Work, Personal, Blog, and Other

Populates any custom fields you have created as it appears on the contact record or workflow

If merge tags are saved to a template, then you'll be able to use this template for individual messages and merge tags will be automatically populated when sending from the Message tab or contact record.

Who Can Use Merge Tags?

Many different industries utilize Nimble for their business needs and they can now use merge tags in individual and group messages to meet those needs. Here are just a few examples of how industries can utilize merge tags in Nimble:

Using Merge Tags for Accountants

If you work in Accounting and use systems like Quickbooks, you can create custom fields to match some of the most used fields such as Purchase Amount, Invoice Number, and/or Issued Date.

These fields can be created in Settings >> Data Fields.

Or if you are using Worfklows and utilizing the Accounting Template then you can add them under Board Card Fields. In every case, you'll want to ensure the field is populated so that it auto-fills when used in group messaging.

In the Group Message tab, you'll be able to select the merge tags you created, and the field will populate once sent.

Using Merge Tags for Recruiters

Recruiters are another example of an industry that can use Merge tags in group messaging.

You can create custom fields such as Interview Date, Seeking Title, and/or Current Employment.

These fields can be created in Settings >> Data Fields.

Or if you are using Worfklows and utilizing the Human Resources Template then you can add them under Board Card Fields. In every case, you'll want to ensure the field is populated so that it auto-fills when used in group messaging.
